I think that question is too broad, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish...at some point you have to know what's best for your own body...what works , what doesn't...myself personally, I enjoy training more than less, and feel my body responds better to it...

Its best to mix it up, do various types of exercise , lift heavy for a few months, then go to lighter higher rep ... ALWAYS mix it up...TRICK your body, it will respond better...

Depends on you man...for me 3 days in a row and 1 day resting seems to work just fine...NO MORE than 3 days in a row though...
You can try 2 days and then take 1 off but it depends on how long you've been trainning and how hard your routines are...
Its also about the muscles you're trying to developed....lets say your abs those you can train every other day.

I agree that it depends on the person. However, there is nothing wrong w/ goint 7 days a week. The human body adapts well. One thing you SHOULD do is always mix up your workouts. For example: do not always do flat bench bench presses when working out your chest. Change it up. On Monday do flat bench & flat dumbells...on Thursday do incline bench & peck deck machine. Same w/ all muscle groups: bi's do preacher bench & standing dumbell one day, then do standing straight bar & standing e-z curlbar. Same w/ cardio: I like to run but I never do the same distance or intensity each time. Some days I'll sprint 3 miles as fast as I can go. The next day I'll run a slow 8 miles. The next day I'll do a mid-speed 4 or 5. The next day I'll do a full sprint 1.5 miler. Some days I'll sprint one mile, walk a half mile, sprint a mile, walk half, sprint one and walk half.

Basically, you can "workout" everyday if you want. Just change it up. If you do a heavy, heavy chest workout on Monday lay off chest until next Monday. Or if you do heavy legs, do light legs 4 or so days later.

Always give a body part some rest after a workout. Most experts recommend 1 day of exercise followed by 2 days of rest.

That doesn't mean you can't exercise everyday, it just means working out different muscle groups on different days.

Back when I was in shape, I would do 2 muscle groups a day, 2 times a week, working out 6 days a week, then complete rest on the 7th day. This was in addition to a rotation of cardio as well.
